Just when I think I can get writting more often something gets in the way. When I started this blog just under 4 years ago it was more for me, well it is still for me. I think at one point a couple years ago I attempted to print out the WHOLE blog incase I lost it somehow and I had roughly 180 pages of post. I have been a personal journal writter since I was old enough to write in complete thoughts, in a tote I still have all my journals and broken lock diaries. Every so often I take out the one from 1994-1996, wow what a mess I was as a teenager and thank god I do not have to ever go back in time. What I have realized is I am really the same person just a few years older, I have always been a tad ecentric and sometimes a bit to much of a personality for other people. You either love me or hate me but most people have made up their mind on which side of the fence they sit. I love to share my experiences and have a place to reflect on how I have grown as a person. I do realize that I have grown in the sense of being much more chill than I have ever been in my life, maybe to the point I do not like. I think staying highstrung makes a person work harder but how much harder do I need to work.
Either way I will be devoting more time to the blog… Summer is on the way and there is always things going on in this fair city….

Of my new way at viewing food and all things consumable.
I have forgot to write about this but between reading “Omnivores Dilemma” and “In Defense of Foods” both by Michael Pollan, my eyes have been opened, somehow in a way that nothing else has worked.
Giving up processed, food product seems to be almost as easy as not eating meat to me. I have no issues with not eating meat, the product does not even appeal to me, because morally I can not do so. But other choices in my life as far as what I put in my body have always been harder. I think we are programmed to listen to food scientist who really do not know everything that makes our bodies tick. It may be the antioxidants in the pomegranate but it may be the synergy between more than one nutrient that has that affect on us, so simply making it a capsule for swallowing may not be benefiting us in any way.

Michael Pollan makes you open yours eyes, and I for one really want to listen to this man speak.
He will be at the West Roxbury Library on May 12, 2009, 7:30 PM.

I have wrote about him before regarding the articles he writes for the New York Times about food, sustainability and the human connection to the food we eat. The man is amazing and all that he states is so true, everything the complete opposite from what we have been told by media and mislead by the FDA.

In “In Defense of Food” Pollan speak of the way we should eat. The motto being “Eat Food- Not Much- Mostly Plant” he list some basic guidelines to what should be in your meals and therefore ingested. Although some of these are basic food shopping and eating knowledge, Pollan reinforces how they work together.
1. Do not buy any food that your great-great-grandmother would not recognize as food (this is a great one and he uses the example of Go-gurt as a prime example)
2. Do not buy anything with more than 5 ingredients
3. Do not buy anything with ingredients you do not know what they are
4. Do not buy anything with ingredients that you can not pronounce
5. Do not buy anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup
6. Stay within the outside aisles of the grocery store
7. Eat Food- Not to Much- Mostly Plants
8. That vegetarian diets are the best for you but a flexatarian diet that being with less than 1 serving of meat a day also has the same benefit
9. Eat Local whenever possible, during summer months shop Farmers Markets for most of your weekly food.
10. Stay away from too many seed and vegetable oils that lead to higher Omega 6′s in the body than Omega 3
11. Opt for whole milk versus skim or fat free as the skim or fat free loss all nutritional content and at some points include includes powdered milk
12. Stay away from any refined carbohydrates
13. There is no such thing as Whole Grain White Bread
14. Do not eat anything that makes health claims on the packaging

There are so much more good advice within his books. He covers the process in which the food lobbiest over the last 50 years have worked to convince the FDA that food was just that FOOD.

I suggest anyone and everyone pick up these two books.

As for me I am on day 7 of trying to keep my food local, organic and with limited “ingredients”, with summer coming I am all set.

Happy Mothers Day to all the Mothers….

What a beautiful Sunday morning, the sun is shining and I am wide awake and have been since 6.
Today bringing the Mamma Dukes to the Mothers Day brunch at the Abbey. The menu looks wonderful and I am excited to try some new goodies.

The next month or so is playing out to be a very busy month for me. Between baby showers, Memorial Day weekend get away with the girls, concerts and shows, work and school I will have my hands full.

Beth, Melissa and I have decided to get away for 1 to 2 nights on Memorial Day weekend, I have not done a girl trip in well ever. Seems something always has come up and it never has happened. So we are either heading to the Cape if we end up with a place to stay as we may, but if that does not come through we will be going to Portsmouth NH for Saturday and Sunday. Either way it will be fun. That Friday night I have two things to attend, I know one being in Portland ME and the other being here in Massachusetts I will have to see how the cards play out.

In Portland ME the Strange Famous @ Space Gallery showcase. The lineup is sick and I would love to attend, but we would need to drive directly there after work…. Anyone that knows me knows my long standing obsession with all things Sage, many a good memories have been built around his music and his performances, going 8 years deep at this point. The good part about him being 30 minutes from here is that local shows occur a lot, was different when I lived in Colorado, not as many.

Also a good old co worker from Ameridose is leaving to go back home and her going away get together is on the 22nd also, so again I will need to see how things pan out.

Between these events and the baby showers, birthday parties, school, work, craft fairs and what ever other events pop up I will be busy for the next two months.

My hands are starting to look old…..
In aging the two things that show the true age of a person is their hands and their neck. My hands are starting to show the bones thou with the more defined veins and all the scares of my past are showing with abundance. My neck I try to elongated and force to be thinning and minus any wrinkles, maybe I am a bit premature in worrying. The only thing I have is my youth and at the age of 29 I only have a future of lying about my age. Men grow old and no need to worry while us women treat each birthday celebration as our 29th. It is a hard place to be, we are too old to compete with 18 year old and too young to be considered mature. Women older than us give us praise to state that we are still young and we have our whole life ahead of us, which we all know is untrue. All our life better damn well include our 20′s. I seem to have wished my life away, always living for a weekend or a time when I am thin. I wish I was prettier or thinner. As I stated my hands are starting to look old, as I type this I see that my hands show everything, the transparentness of my skin makes me scared that my best years are over. The curves and bumps of my body are new and I am not sure how to dress them, I am too old for the newest trend and too young for Talbots. The confussion of who I am makes me grow older, I waited so long to decide that it is almost not worth trying. so I will go back to staring at my hands wondering where the years went.

Busy weekend

I expected this weekend to be a wash, you know rain and so on. Well it did no such thing but was a busy weekend none the less. Yesterday I went to Ikea with Beth and bought the kick ass acrylic/lucite chair I have been wanting for my desk and somehow spent another 150 bucks on random stuff.

Last night we went to The Hanover for Lewis CK show, it was a great time a nonstop laugh fest. I have not seen a stand-up show of his but I loved “Lucky Louie.”

Today Neil and I planned on painting. A lot of touch up from the paint job from two years ago and add some color. We found a magenta purple color that a great match with the gray walls we have. We finally painted the inside of our front door instead of the white that has been there since this place was built. We also painted one wall as you walk in to add some color. I set up my desk facing the living area versus a wall and I love it. The house looks perfect, well as much as it can for needing a new couch.
