My New Career Move and a Fond Goodbye

Mar

I am very happy and a bit nervous. I shouldn’t complain I have a job in a shitty economy, I have a job that would continue to be there as long as I wanted to work it. Maybe I am not a huge fan of some of the structural changes as of late but overall the job has done no harm to me, well maybe mess up my study schedule with nights like tonight when we needed to get 2700 units of vancomyocin out the door after 4pm and I rolled into my parking lot at 7:45 pm. I have learned new skills and felt as if I had a position that was important to the overall success of the organization.

Overall, people were respectful except a few “punks” in the shipping who will not be missed. Part of me is very sad that I will miss out on the growth of the company, I am sure 5 years from now will be something much more than many who work there right now can imagine and I hope by then they go public so I can buy as much stock as I can afford. I will miss my great team of QC’s, very much so. I have learned so much from each of you and you could always make me smile. I am sorry I will not have that comradary in the future. All the QC’s are very talented people who have much to offer and I hope that once the economy gets better you can all expand on this. To the ladies and gents in the shipping department, you guys always kept it interesting. To all the wonderful ladies that work in the clean room that I have come to love, I will miss you very much too.. :)

As for the new job. It is exactly what I want to do, it is everything I could hope for in a team environment working in the HIM department of a hospital. I see tons of growth potential and some fantastic people to mold my career after. I will be the direct liaison for the attorneys at retainer and compliance. I am very excited. I will be working at a hospital in Belmont, great benefits and again what I want to do for career.

I will miss everyone at Ameridose, well maybe not everyone, but most…

Alec sent over the links to the new websites for the Dive Bar and the Armsby Abbey. Well done and now they both show just how fantastic both locations are.

If you are a beer lover I can not stress enough that right here in Central Massachusetts we have two of the best beer bars in Massachusetts. Alec is extremely knowledgeable about all beers and goes out of his way with his many connections in the beer world to get new and unique beers in.

Please check out both locations:

For Dinner and a yummy Belgium Brew check out the Armsby Abbey
For the Thursday night beers and a band check out the Dive Bar

Credit Card Companies are #%#%%$%^&

Mar

I am sure I am not alone out there in the credit card world. I do understand the tightening of the belts of these credit card giving banks but why do you penalize the people who pay on time and who are faithfully making you money.

I have received numerous new “terms” from a couple select cards and one card that lowered my limit. Lowering my limit looks like I did something wrong to other creditors out there, which to me is pure bullshit. The new terms are from banks such as Bank of America, Chase and Barclays stating that if I was to be late a payment, default by just one day over the due date my new APR would be 26.00% or 29%. The one thing I would love to do is call them and tell them to shove it, to cancel my accounts with them. I am a paying customer, they get their money back and they are going to tighten the ropes with new terms.

Larger late fees and overage charges. A whole slew of money they want from me, the good paying credit card customer.

Today is March 11th, and I will be going back to the doctors tomorrow. I have spent a couple hundred bucks on over the counter drugs with no real relief. The sickness that I thought was almost gone came back with avengenous.

A thought…

Mar
No Comments   Posted by Ms C. |  Category:Uncategorized

I was doing some thinking the other day after reading the article on Colony Collapse with the honeybees and questioned myself and a few others. If you are truly VEGAN would you also not eat almonds knowing that millions are flown in to California to pollinate the almond trees each year. Vegan’s do not eat honey or use anything with beeswax, well I think they should also not eat almonds for the same ethical meaning.
Just a thought.

Substainability

Mar
No Comments   Posted by Ms C. |  Category:Uncategorized

I came across this article by Michael Pollan who writes for the New York Times on a debate of “Sustainability” and how this word is broken down to almost not mean anything anymore. To be

Sustainable is: to be capable of being continued with minimal long-term effect on the environment: Such as sustainable agriculture.

Examples Pollan uses such as the degree in which antibiotics are used in factory farming to keep infection down amongst the animals is linked to the fact that younger people are getting drug-resistant staph infections and dying from them. The only way the factory farming is sustainable is by loading the animals with the antibiotics which is messing with nature. The antibiotics are also feed to speed the growth of the cattle, pigs or chicken making the turn around quicker. Remember what ever is feed to these animals will be enter your body if you are a meat eater.

The 2nd point that Pollan expresses is the Colony Collapse Disorder with American Honeybees. The honeybees of America are disappearing at an alarming rate. The need for the pollination of the plants by the honeybees- naturally is being challenged and worked over by the need for the honeybees in BIG industry such as Almonds. I only just learned that 80% of the worlds Almonds are grown in California’s Central Valley. The honeybee is needed in order for the growth of Almonds. The farmers of the Almonds farms “rent” honeybees from all over the country. Each of them has their own diseases and pathogens and now they are mixing with other honeybees. The overworking of the honeybee has caused their immune systems to be come weak and make them more prone to sickness. The USDA started allowing Honeybees from Australia to come and help in the February weeks to pollinate the Almond trees.

The most important thing said in this article was:

“From this perspective, the story of Colony Collapse Disorder and the story of drug-resistant staph are the same story. Both are parables about the precariousness of monocultures. Whenever we try to rearrange natural systems along the lines of a machine or a factory, whether by raising too many pigs in one place or too many almond trees, whatever we may gain in industrial efficiency, we sacrifice in biological resilience. The question is not whether systems this brittle will break down, but when and how, and whether when they do, we’ll be prepared to treat the whole idea of sustainability as something more than a nice word.

Pollan’s focus is that we need too much and all things around us are not as substainable as we may have thought, the constant chasing of tomorrows problems today will not lead to long term results.

Dinner at Bocado

Mar
No Comments   Posted by Ms C. |  Category:Uncategorized

Been away from the blog more than I like lately. It is hard when trying to keep my life in order with working full time and carrying college classes that require my free time.

Tonight my folks brought Neil and I out to eat @ Bocado, the 1st time we have gotten the “Dinner for 4″ which could feed 5 people no issue. You get to choose from 4 cheese/meat plates, 10 hot or cold tapas, an entrée for 2 and dessert. The amount and selection of food you receive makes it all worth the price of the dinner. It comes to about $31.00 per person, plus drinks and tip. It was nice because my parents are not “fancy” people, they are your small town folk that really enjoy trying new things when they have the opportunity. I can say they enjoyed our almost 3 hour dinner. I am mighty full and not at all able to even drink some water right now.

Sitting and waiting for the snow storm we will be getting tonight into tomorrow in the ball park of 8-13 inches.
